nice price deal !!! the title of this ep sorta says it all. its quite an important release for the label. glasgow musical connections all around! when most people think of optimo music, they think of the long-running club night in glasgow >optimo (espacio)<, which ran for 12 years every sunday…headed by jd twitch and jg wilkes. label honcho jd twitch is extremely proud to be releasing naum gabo … as this is the studio project of his optimo partner, jonnie wilkes, along with james savage. jonnie and james (formally releasing three 12 inches simply as >naum< on kompakts mighty speicher series) have been active on the scene for a while now. as well as releasing the original music on kompakt, mule, eskimo, dissident, and tinae they have provided some wonderful naum gabo reworks for hot chip, simian mobile disco, franz ferdinand, snow patrol, psychonauts and so many more… twitch has long been a fan of naum gabo so it is a bit of a coup to be getting this fantastic release: two covers of two mighty scottish acts from the late 70s/early 80s.

after spending the majority of 2009 in hollywood, chanes briefly returned home to finish up songs for what would become his 2010 release, an experimentation in instrumentation. the 15-track tape, presented by house shoes, exposed us all to the nomadic 21-year-old producer from canton, michigan. chanes would spend the next two years working between home and brooklyn, before relocating to arizona, where he would release his follow up project, renegade hands, (insect records 2013). presented again by shoes, hands solidified chanes as one of the most promising young producers in the country.
fast-forward to 2016, and at 27, this self-titled debut takes us circa 2007 - 2009 with the soul-chopping salad days of his mother s basement, through the alternative sampling williamsburg, brooklyn sessions of 2010. if the melancholy desert psychedelia of his isolated four years in perpetual southwestern summer gives us a glimpse into his growing electronic influences, then the angst of his winter homecomings are hiding under the aggressive parka weather beats that first caught the attention of detroit’s underground.
fittingly, chanes’ debut lp comes full circle, finishing the album back in the place it all started and releasing it with long-time supporter house shoes and street corner music.

drifting as a snow-smattered cloud from the north, breathing icy winds crackling with the splinters of crystal water and effervescent dust, hedge maze returns to the lobster theremin fold with four gently glowing tracks-from-the-hut that span crunchy house, hotel elevator ambient, deep-sea techno and skittering percussive drone. sand-blasted productions that curdle and bake with the treatment of valve-driven machinery, steadily condensing ideas on a window pane in todmorden.

rndm (pronounced *random*) is a new musical group featuring pearl jam bassist jeff ament, singer-songwriter joseph arthur and drummer richard stuverud. in april of this year, joseph arthur joined jeff ament and drummer richard stuverud in montana for a jam session, which would give birth to rndm *acts*. within an hour on that first night in the studio, the trio had bashed into shape an ament song called *what you cant control*. and after four days with longtime pearl jam engineer brett eliason behind the boards, the group had nearly 20 finished tracks, which were eventually whittled down to to 12 for this album. the double vinyl comes in gatefold sleeve and contains a download code.
